Talking to the Future

Recently, Alan and Jen spoke to the accounting students at Central Connecticut University. This was a great opportunity for both the students and the firm to get to know each other. In a world where good accountants are harder and harder to find and a great job is difficult to find, these two entities connected with each other. Alan was able to tell the future of our industry about our accounting world and how it relates to the music industry, and the up and coming graduates were able to be inspired and informed about the different angles of the accounting word.

Creative Music Center Launches New Store and Web Site

Creative Music Center Launches new Store and Web Site

Thursday night of the NAMM show, FKCO held its annual client meeting.  This year we were a little more organized.  We were able to tell everyone about the changes that have taken place in the firm and also give details on the new services and programs that we are now providing.

One of those services is marketing consultation.  In his delivery of this program, Alan commented that a lot of his clients’ web sites and presence were not up to par.  And while that might be true for some of you, it is not true at all for Liz Reisman of Creative Music Center in Monroe, CT.

I had the pleasure of talking with Liz yesterday just to let her know how much I dug her site.  She is a delight and very passionate about what she is creating at her store.  Heavily based on the education side of the music retail business, Liz has literally built her place from the ground up.

She told me that her daughter used to attend the store to take music classes at Creative Music Center before owning it herself.  She mentioned that every time she would walk into the store, she would see so much untapped potential.  Well 4 1/2 years ago, her daughter’s music learning center closed, and six weeks after that LIz bought the place on her own!

She spent four years in the old building and has now just moved to a brand new facility literally built from scratch and to her specifications.  Having always wanted to be an elementary music educator, LIz has now built her own school in order to fulfill that dream.  She has been in the new place since December 1st, and they continue to reinvent the store and their business every day.

If you go on to her web site, you will see that she did not stop at the corners of her brick and mortar store.  She has a great web site that is inviting and makes you really want to visit Creative Music Center.  She is aware that growing her business is a never ending process and she does claim that she is a slave to her IT guy.  She is doing creative marketing for the grand opening which includes hosting the world’s longest jam session.  All are invited to participate from 4 to 104.

Creative Music Center is 5100 square feet in size and houses about 25 teachers.  They are located at 701 Main Street Monroe, CT 06468.  The web address iswww.thecreativemusiccenter.com and Liz can be contacted atliz@thecreativemusiccenter.com.

Check her site and store out for much inspiration!

Winter NAMM Follow Up 2008

January 23, 2008

Alan, Daniel and I just returned from the 2008 Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, CA.  Our trip there was action packed, and we were delighted to meet with some of our existing clients as well as meet new perspective business owners.

We are all decompressing and evaluating the past week’s events.  This show was one of the best if not the best each of us have had.  NAMM really stepped it up, and we have to give them a cyber high five!  The NAMM University was packed every day with peer to peer sharing of great ideas and business practices.  Alan, Daniel, and I all spoke during the show and were honored to be a part of the ever growing buzz.

The NAMM show offers us a chance as a firm to reconnect with the industry and stay in touch with the demands of the music retail business.  We look forward to attending the Summer show in Nashville and being a part of the positive “epidemic.”
